Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota
The Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC) is the only locally-owned emergency and referral specialty practice in the state. We employ a wide variety of veterinarians, board-certified specialists, and health care team members, all on-hand for when your pet just isn’t feeling like himself. Trust us to keep you informed about the care your pet receives at our center and to pay special attention to your needs as well.
Following are services that we provide that are specific to the needs of aging or terminally ill pets. We promise to treat you and your pet with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Emergency Services Our emergency medicine service is staffed by experienced emergency doctors 24/7/365. If your pet has a crisis or you have decided it is time to euthanize, and your family veterinarian is unavailable, we are here for you.
Pain Management Pets suffering from chronic pain experience a decreased ability to enjoy all aspects of their lives. You might notice that your eight-year-old Labrador is “slowing down a bit,” or that your cat is dropping food out of his mouth. Either of these situations (and many others) can indicate that a pet is experiencing pain. But your pet doesn’t have to live with pain!
If you suspect that your pet is in pain, please consult with your family vet first. Depending on the type of pain that is occurring, your vet may recommend a consultation with one of our board-certified specialists. Your vet may also refer your pet to our Sport & Strength Department for a physical rehabilitation or a pain management plan where appropriate.
Grief Support There is nothing in the world quite like the experience of having a pet share our lives. Pets are there for us when we return home from work and school with wagging tails, cold noses, and total acceptance. They love us for who we are without question.
One day, however, our beloved pet will no longer be a constant in our lives. And it can be difficult to cope with the loss and grief that accompanies such a staggering loss.
That’s why Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota offers a Pet Loss Support Group that meets at our Oakdale location on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 7-8:30pm. In November and December, the group is held on the third Tuesday due to the holidays.
