February is Pet Dental Health Month, and TJ has a few tips to keep their teeth healthy and clean. While brushing is best, the act of chewing something that rubs against the tooth’s surface can be helpful in removing or preventing tartar buildup.
A healthy, chewy treat that you can make at home is a dehydrated slice of sweet potato! They’re a great source of vitamin A, as well as antioxidants, fiber, potassium, and other vitamins and minerals.
Simply cut up a sweet potato into about 1/4” slices, and bake at 250* for 3 hours, turning halfway through. If you have a food dehydrator, drying for about 6-8 hours should yield a chewy consistency.
*Avoid gastrointestinal upset by giving small sweet potato chews in moderation.
