Everyone knows that many breeds of animals come into our lives to enrich us and fill our hearts with love and compassion. Rescue pets are a special breed and having to photograph their last days on earth is a challenge because when the tears well up in our eyes behind the camera, sometimes it is hard to see through the lens.
I had the honour of photographing Forest, a wonderful rescue Chesapeake Bay Retriever, on his last day at the park. There are a number of great images from that day and in my mind, the best one of the day is this one where his personality and love of life come out in full bloom.
While it is always heartbreaking to say goodbye, having a "Joy Session" image that portrays the real personality of the loved pet is always a wonderful way to remember how much unconditional love and happiness each special pet brings us.
Needless to say, one of Forest's favourite games is catching tennis balls!
