A few months ago I lost Yummy (http://imagesbytrish.com/yummytribute/). I still miss her. A few weeks after her passing, I thought the best way to honor her memory was to provide a fur-ever home to another one of God's creatures.
I went to a local PetSmart that was hosting an adoption event with one of the local cat rescue groups. That's where I met and fell in love with Sherman. He's not just a pet, he's not another one of my cats, he is my family. I worried that the other girls wouldn't accept him, I worried that he wouldn't adjust and would want to be where he was before, is he happy, does he like me.
Call me a crazy cat lady, but he is truly part of my family. When Yummy was sick, I cancelled a long weekend trip to be with her and comfort her knowing she probably didn't have long even though I kept hoping the chemo would work.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of photographic services and have some professional pet portraits done. In many cases, these animals ARE the family and why act any different. I'm fortunate to be a photographer so I can capture both the silly snapshots and the beautiful portraits of my fur children. I encourage everyone to have some done and hang them proudly on your walls. When they are gone, you'll be glad you did.
