Around the holidays an acquaintance and I were at a the local dog beach. Her Golden Retriever, Romeo, was fighting cancer. We didn't have much time to talk, but I mentioned to her that I was working on a senior pet project and was hoping Romeo could model for me at some point. I told her to call me and we could set something up. As things go, personal projects sometimes fall by the wayside, and I hadn't been able to get back to it yet.
About two weeks ago, Romeo's mom, Emilia reached out to me about photographing Romeo. Knowing his cancer battle, I assumed the worst. I didn't even ask the question. We scheduled his session for last Thursday.
On Thursday I arrive at the location a few minutes in advance. They arrived and I start prepping Emilia and her daughter for the session. During the course of our conversation, I learned that he'd had his last chemo session the week before and had been declared cancer free! Needless to say, my heart was soaring. I'm sure theirs was too.
So, today we celebrate life. This is Romeo. 12 years old, and not ready to die yet.
